1. No, because messaging feature will involve other components of my application which goes beyond the scope of unit testing. In this case E2E testing would be recommended.
2. Yes, since this is a small assertion with constant limitation in regards to the functionality, so it does not require other components of my application to “work together”, which is a perfect usage of unit testing.
